About XL4Sim

XL4Sim is a collection of browser-based engineering simulation tools built for fast, transparent first-pass analysis across structural, dynamics/shock, and thermal problems. The goal is simple: deliver practical engineering insight in minutes, without the overhead of large workflows while keeping assumptions visible.

Why XL4Sim exists

In early design, the main questions are usually directional: feasibility, sensitivity, and order of magnitude. XL4Sim focuses on that phase, helping users quickly explore what matters most before committing to detailed FEA/CFD and/or complex testing.

What makes it different

Transparent methods

Assumptions and governing equations are stated so you can judge applicability and confidence.

Speed-first workflow

Built for rapid iteration, parameter sweeps, and trade studies, with practical outputs.

Runs in the browser

No installation. Accessible anywhere. Easy to share results and scenarios.

Engineering focus

Designed for engineers and technologists prioritizing clarity over marketing polish.

Founder background

XL4Sim is developed and maintained by a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with a PhD in Engineering and over 40 years of experience across a wide range of engineering domains.

Professional experience includes work in aerospace and aircraft systems, road and rail vehicles, electric vehicles, wind turbines, and other complex mechanical and electromechanical systems. This includes roles spanning concept development, analysis, design support, and technical problem-solving across both research and industrial environments.

The modules in XL4Sim reflect that domain experience and are built around methods and approximations that are commonly used in real engineering practice for early-stage evaluation, feasibility assessment, and trade studies.

Each tool is designed to expose assumptions clearly, favor engineering transparency over black-box behavior, and align with how experienced engineers think about structure, dynamics, and thermal behavior when exploring design space.

Important: XL4Sim tools are intended for preliminary engineering insight and concept exploration. For safety-critical decisions, regulatory compliance, and final design approval, users should verify results with independent methods such as detailed simulation, testing, and/or professional review.

Use cases

  • Concept screening and feasibility checks
  • Parameter sensitivity and trade studies
  • Preliminary sizing and “back-of-the-envelope” validation
  • Educational exploration and method comparison
  • Rapid communication of assumptions and directional outcomes
