Vehicle hitting an Obstruction
Trade studies for vertical ride and impact response. Adjust mass/geometry, suspension/tire parameters and obstruction features and compare responses.
Details (inputs, outputs, assumptions) Read once
Inputs
- Best use: make sure your browser supports WebGL/Three.js by going to https://get.webgl.org
- Geometry / masses: chassis and cab/cargo dimensions and weights
- Wheels / suspension: axle locations and front and rear suspension K and C values
- Tires: effective vertical stiffness
- Obstruction: obstruction size, strength and vehicle speed
- Helpful hint: the model and results can be saved to a JSON file for future use
Outputs
- Initial Conditions: the initial accelerations are from a small vehicle drop to initiate the solution
- Accelerations: vehicle CG response to the obstruction
- Axis Directions: x=vehicle side to side; y=vehicle travel direction; z=vehicle vertical direction
- Time histories: compare obstruction and vehicle conditions
- Visualization: response animation
Assumptions
- Simplified 3D dynamics
- Linearized elements
- Use for sensitivity and early-stage decision support
Examples
